There was no special effort to find figured maple for these so most of the tops on sunburst Classic models were plain. The Les Paul Classic specifications were adjusted during the early s. In many respects the Les Paul Classic was a more accurate reissue than the ’59 Les Paul of the early s. By swapping a few easily found parts: In the Classic line was extended again with the introduction of the Premium Plus model. Dealers were unhappy with the variability of the figure in the Classic Plus models So the Classic Premium Plus guitars had tops which were better than “plus” tops but not usually as fancy as the ’59 reissue tops.

At the start of both these models were still almost like ’59 reissues for a lot less money. And Gibson is also giving some of its more exotic models facelifts in the coming year. A lot of work goes into the neck carve and fretwork of the Les Paul Faded T to evoke that sense of a seasoned and familiar instrument that fits you like the proverbial glove.

The Mahogany slim taper neck is a nod to modern shredders while modern R and T humbuckers exploit all the tonal goodness and resonance churned out by the weight-relieved body. The faded finish underscores the sense of holding a veteran axe. The gloss finish gets a carefully applied treatment giving it a convincingly worn appearance. Ditto the nickel-plated hardware and that old-friend feel when you first grasp the slim-taper neck and run your fingers down the nicely finished and polished frets.

Modern Gibson R Neck and T Bridge humbuckers crank the output necessary for contemporary music contexts while the weight-relieved body is a shoulder and back-friendly update. But the modern neck profile and modern humbuckers are all about achieving maximum playability and tone.

On electric guitars, the serial number is generally printed on the back of the headstock.

Oct 26, Thanks folks, glad to help. As promised, here is a rundown on these guitars based on the information I received when dealing with Gibson and the retailer which originally ordered these for the Canadian market. Hopefully this will help to clear up some of the confusion surrounding these models. The original run of these was Honeyburst models that were made for a retailer here in Canada.

The majority of these have serial numbers but some, my own included, have serial numbers because they began production of these models in December of There is no indication yet of how many of these colours are being made but it is safe to assume that the quantities will be limited, as were the Honeybursts. In addition to the Canadian ones, these guitars are also available in Europe. These guitars are very similar to the Standard fadeds, which were available until approximately and which sold heavily in Europe and the US, but these are not Standard fadeds.
